Golden Maple Domes
Sometimes on a dry and sunny October day a strange feeling encompasses - it seems like gold is around. You are standing among maples. Golden domes against a bright blue sky - these are still leafy peaks, a heap of rustling, rustling gold underfoot - gracefully carved leaves constantly falling. None of our trees have such amazing leaf shapes as maples. 2-3 days before the leaves bloom, in the month of May, this beautiful tree blooms, covered with bouquets of yellow flowers. Maple crown seems lacy, airy. It is extremely picturesque both in summer and in autumn. The leaves are arranged in groups and create a wonderful play of light and shadow.
Due to the beauty of graceful leaves, in ancient times, maple along with birch became one of the May trees. In Belarus, the girls at Trinity prepared the so-called “bush”: maple branches were broken in the forest and their thick ends tied with thread. The resulting "bush" was decorated with a "podcast" - the same bunch of smaller branches. The girl, chosen by lot, put on a “bush” and, surrounded by singing friends, went around the whole village several times. After that, the "bush" was torn apart in the middle of the street, and the women were in a hurry to collect and hide maple leaves, they were considered a cure for abscesses.
At the end of the century before last, in the region of Pinsk, ethnographers noted that all the Trinity songs were called “on the bush” - the consonance testified to the fact that this ritual was very widespread. In Vitebsk, the girl was dressed up with a “bush” on the eve of Ivan Kupala's day, hanging ornaments from herbs, flowers and branches on her. The girl also walked in a crowd throughout the village, bowing to the earth with a bow to every house and turning over on her heel three times. Then the participants of the ritual went to a strange field and burned greenery, jumped over the fire, sang and conjured sorcerers and wolves. By this they condemned sorcerers and wolves to excruciating pains and even death ...
Naive rites have long been forgotten. Nowadays, maple is a valuable tree species. Maple wood is very beautiful in a split, easily processed with various tools, well polished. It is very hard, does not crack or warp. From time immemorial, wooden spoons, gun lodges, various agricultural implements, and various carvings have been made from maple. Various wind instruments made of it are especially appreciated: flutes, oboes, clarinets, and in our time.
Lacy in the spring, magnificent in the summer, golden in the fall, fine tree - maple. He deserves a careful attitude to himself and is waiting for large-scale production breeding.
